The Australia Collection is finished and I have uploaded it to my website and to New Blood Art today. I'm so pleased with this work and have loved painting the 6 paintings in the collection. Working on them has kept the memories of that wonderful trip to the red centre of the Australian Outback fresh in my mind. The colours are vibrant and strong, and I have tried to evoke the experience of the journey, as well as capture the landscape itself. It is more than the searing heat and the vast expanse, there is a deep spiritual quality in the stillness and it has touched my heart. I hope you can see in these paintings the deep impression the ancient lands of the Outback made on me.

I've been so busy painting that I haven't kept my blog up for ages. The Australia work is well underway as seen above and will go onto my website (and New Blood Art) once the oil ones are dry enough to varnish. But I have sold several recently and the one last week has been bought by the lovely Tanya Burr. She has just posted on youtube, and you can see my painting and the others she selected, hanging in her home. The little sausage dog, Martha is so cute and steals the show!! Here is the link..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EhLTiRkFp8 < and this is the one she chose. So much has happened in the last few months and the blogging has halted. However, I'm pleased to announce that not only did I pass my MA, but I was awarded a Distinction.
I then got the opportunity to take an extended visit to Australia and paint some of its wonderful landscapes. So far I am still painting my response to the Red Centre - Uluru, Kings Canyon and the wide open spaces of Australia's ancient heartland. This work continues but above is a' work in progress'. I've never used so much red!! I have also been to the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall and did several sketches and some small studies of the headlands. And as promised I have uploaded the paintings that were made with the final exhibition in mind. Not all of them were hung in the end but they are all important paintings to me as they capture my responses to the changes in the valley between May and September 2015. Its beauty still captivates and fascinates me, despite my travels farther afield and long may it continue to do so. Its been a frantic summer of long hours and few breaks but finally, the paintings are finished and ready to take to hang in the gallery at School of Art, Aberystwyth.
Today has been all the stuff you forget you have to do - and how long it all takes. Labels mounted onto foamboard, crafting the Artist's Statement, recrafting the Artist's Statement, re-re-crafting the Artist's Statement etc., This body of work is called Valley - Variations, and I'll put some images on the website when the show opens next week. Exciting news, New Blood Art - an online gallery that visits Degree Shows and approaches artists of interest - made contact last week and invited me to show with them. A steep learning curve followed on a) how to photograph your paintings b) how to upload them successfully c) find an interesting photo of me, myself, I and d) pen a suitable artist's statement.
Happy to say that all this has happened and you can now see my work on the New Blood Art website - http://newbloodart.com/artist/2698/cheryl-ann-williams Now all I have to do is keeeeeeeep painting!! |
